June, July and August are peak season. All attractions operate at full capacity. The boat ride runs every 15 minutes. Daytime temperatures are 22 to 28 Celsius. Fireworks Wednesday and Sunday at 10 PM. Hornblower can have 60 minute queues. Hotels book out 3 months ahead. Best for first time visitors who want the full experience.

December through March is the calm season. The boat ride is closed. The Cave of the Winds is closed. But the Festival of Lights from mid November to mid January transforms the parkway with millions of LED lights and daily fireworks. The falls partially freeze in late January, creating ice formations that make for stunning photos. Hotels are 40 percent cheaper.

Yes. The falls themselves never close. Most attractions including Journey Behind the Falls, the Skylon Tower, the Butterfly Conservatory and the helicopter remain open year round. The boat ride and Cave of the Winds close from November to April.
The falls never freeze completely because of the volume of water. In late January and February, the spray creates massive ice formations on the rocks and surrounding park, especially in the basin of the Horseshoe Falls.
Daily during the Festival of Lights from November 14, 2026 to January 8, 2027 at 9 PM. Outside of this period, fireworks return on Wednesday and Sunday from May 18.
Hotel rates in January through March are typically 40 percent lower than peak summer rates. A fallsview room that costs CAD 350 in July might cost CAD 200 in February.
