Border crossing logistics

The Rainbow Bridge is the main pedestrian and vehicle crossing, just downstream of the American Falls. Walking takes 15 minutes, the bridge toll is CAD 1 each way. Driving takes 5 to 60 minutes including immigration. Both Canadian and US passports needed. NEXUS holders skip the queue.

Verdict

If you can do both sides, do both. If you only have time for one, the Canadian side wins for first time visitors. The US side is the choice for nature focused travelers and those who already saw the Canadian side.
